Contact Improvisation Classes

About

Contact Improvisation is a fusion of art and sport, combining dance, acrobatics, meditation, and martial arts into a dynamic movement research practice. Together, we will explore the physical forces of gravity, momentum, and inertia in an improvised, moment-to-moment way, in contact with a partner through touch and shared weight. We will cover fundamental principles like grounding, maintaining a rolling point of contact, and pathway continuation through solo and partner exercises, with plenty of space to share experiences, sensations, and insights with each other.

The classes invite newcomers and those with some experience who want to explore the fundamentals deeper alike, to join a small (max. 15 people), committed and ongoing group engaged in a shared investigation of the diverse world of Contact Improvisation.

Christoph

My approach to movement and Contact Improvisation has been mostly shaped by the martial arts. Years of practicing Taijiquan, Aikido, and Wing Chun inform my pragmatism, where form follows function. As a student of Zen Buddhism and Daoism, I practice embodied philosophy to investigate relationships and the self, and bring this profound interest in embodied research to my teaching.

My classes are well-structured, which makes them suited for beginners. Emphasizing slowness, softness, and awareness, I like to inspire people to see beyond the absolutes of right and wrong, providing the tools and space to answer their own questions; to become your own teacher.
